Branching out at the Deli and other firsts

Reactions:
Summer reading listSupposedly, breaking habits can trigger creative thoughts (A Whack on the Side of the Head). For example, taking a different route to work or changing the radio station you listen to could be just what you need to get to that great idea. Since I live in New Jersey and have no natural sense of direction, I can't take an alternate route to work without getting lost, and I can't give up my audiobooks; I need them to get through my summer reading list ;-) So, I'm experimenting with food.

Today, I decided to try to kind of sketchy deli next door to the college. By tomorrow, you will know whether or not I survived the sandwich.

I drove home from Arlington, VA last night listening to Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim. I love Richard Kadrey. Fantasy is always a tough sell for me, but he has awesome style.

Now I'm back to Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate it, but I'm not digging this book. It's written in 3rd person limited which isn't my favorite point of view to read to begin with, and a lot of the text is dedicated to describing the main character, Tessa's, thought process about everything---and not in a way that tells a lot about her character. So far, it's the most clinical fantasy I've encountered. Something about that just doesn't sit right . . . or maybe it's egg salad repeating on me.
