Review: Queens of all the Earth

Reactions:
The Queens of All the EarthThe Queens of All the Earth by Hannah Sternberg
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

After Olivia has a nervous breakdown the day she's supposed to move-in at Cornell, her sister, Miranda, takes her to Barcelona for vacation therapy. From that point on, it's a contemporary retelling of A Room With a View.

I have to give Hannah Sternberg credit for staying so close to the original story line in terms of the characters they meet in Barcelona (instead of Florence). Strenberg's writing style is also strong in its own right. She really gets into her characters' heads and her prose is fresh and original. The main problem is the story is based in a novel that belonged to a different time. Most of us don't have the patience for a comedy of manners and little else. This was an entertaining read, but too insubstantial for literary fiction and not plot driven enough for light soft cover stuff.
