Review: John Dies At the End

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am so glad I finished this book--not that I didn't enjoy it, but it gave me bizarre dreams. I hope it's what has been giving me bizarre dreams because if it wasn't, I'm still screwed. My husband actually stole John Dies At the End aka "JDATE" from my Goodreads queue and insisted that I read it because it's a lot like Supernatural with poop jokes on steroids. Apparently, JDATE also has quite the cult following on RPG Net and other assorted message boards that nerdy people frequent. (I won't explain what RPG Net is because if you don't know, you're better off not knowing.)

JDATE is hard to describe. Probably the best way to sum it up is I was reading and giggling through the last few pages, it ended, and I was like, "What the f*&%k happened?" You know how Where Things Come Back won the Printz Award this year? Well, in JDATE, everything comes back. Characters, like Molly the telepathic dog, die in all kinds of disgusting ways and come back. After a while, it's hard to tell which reality you're in or if there even is a reality. I'd tell you more about John, but I don't want to give away the ending.

If you love horror and poop jokes, this is an awesome book. If you don't, your less stuck-up friends will love it.
