Review: What Happened to Cass McBride?

Reactions:
What Happened to Cass McBride? What Happened to Cass McBride? by Gail Giles
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bottom line: Fun read but definitely not great literature.

I should have taken the endorsement from James Patterson on the cover as a sign of things to come, but I didn't because I'm just not very smart about that kind of thing.
Also, after Stephen King endorsed something as girly as The Monsters of Templeton, I don't know what to make of author endorsements anymore, but, I digress.

Beautiful, popular, and conniving Cass McBride is kidnapped. Nobody knows who took her, where she is, or why she was taken. Well, that's not true. As soon as you start reading, you'll know the answers to most of these questions. What Happened to Cass McBride? isn't the real question in this YA thriller. The question posed repeatedly is: what happened to David Kirby? David was a social misfit who committed suicide just before Cass's story begins.

Gail Giles let's the story unfold through multiple points of view: Cass, Kyle (David's older brother), and Ben (a detective assigned to Cass's case). The detective's pov seemed superfluous to me. He wasn't interesting as a person and most of the information he added to the story was a regurgitation of what we already heard from Kyle.

All that said, it was a fast-paced and fun read. Definitely good airplane reading.
